In 2020 the heir of the Aventador will be equipped with a hybrid engine, but will not give up the aspirated V12. Like all manufacturers, Lamborghini is getting ready for the new era of so-called electrification, which will see the progressive arrival of hybrid engines replacing the traditional ones. According to rumors, two models with this type of engine should arrive in 2020. One of these will be the hybrid version of the SUV Lamborghini Urus, which should inherit the propulsion system from the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid with over 700 hp.

But the engineers, led by the technical manager Maurizio Reggiani, are working on what appears to be the real challenge for the Italian company, without the use of technologies from other brands of the Volkswagen group. It is the heir of the Lamborghini Aventador, a model that dates back to 2011 and now begins to feel the weight of the years. Even this super sports car will have to bend to the rules imposed by the EU, which foresees lower and lower CO2 emissions, and therefore it will have to take an obligatory path: a hybrid propulsion system, that is that it also exploits the electric motor.

No Turbo

According to rumors gathered by Autocar, the next generation of 2020 Lamborghini Aventador should maintain a V12 engine. An almost obligatory choice for the Italian company since this type of splitting is part of its DNA and identifies the Lamborghini car since its foundation. Therefore it is an indispensable element. Moreover, it seems that it will remain an aspirated, even in this case going against the current with respect to the prevailing trend that sees the general use of the turbo (an example of all the V12 Aston Martin DB11 and DBS).

But how to make a “green” engine an engine that by nature is very little? The rumors speak of the addition of an electric motor on the front axle to make the four-wheel drive, which is essential for a car that will presumably approach the 800 hp. This solution would make the traditional mechanical all-wheel-drive system useless, but inevitably brings with it the weight increase of the batteries and the various components of the hybrid system that should be around 200 kg.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador hybrid Release Date & Price

An anticipation of this technology should arrive second in 2019 when the Lamborghini will announce a hypercar built in a few models equipped with a hybrid engine similar to the one that will be used for the successor of the Aventador. This model was shown to some customers in June and should cost over 2 million.
