The two new 1-liter three-cylinder supercharged petrol engines that debut in the Nissan Micra family also anticipate what will soon happen in the ranks of other French-Japanese Alliance brands. First of all, at Renault, where the imminent arrival of the new Clio generation has just been announced. But the talk, then, could also concern the Daimler group, since they derive from the turbo four-cylinder 1.3-liter already adopted by some Renault, Nissan and Mercedes.
Although they are the result of the same stock, as shown by displacement as well as bore and stroke, the two engines are not the same. In fact, the 117 bhp, unlike the 100 bhp, is direct injection and takes advantage of all the technologies of kin with an extra cylinder.
The DIG-T 117 is fun. This unit pushes the new top-of-the-range version of the Micra family, available only in the new N-Sport set-up. In spite of the denomination and of the high power in relation to the displacement, it does not manifest a true sportive character but has a temperament that supports the pleasure of driving in every situation. The engine, also propitiated by the correct spacing of the six gear gears, is elastic and progressive, with immediate responses. The delivery emerges from the lowest regimes, it continues linearly and also in a rather incisive way when the overboost enters the stage, which raises the torque from 180 to 200 Nm. In addition to the good verve, this little turbo is appreciated also because it rarely shows the three-cylinder fractionation with a not very harmonious tonality, penalizing for comfort. A factor that on the bumpy is not compromised even by the attitude of the N-Sport, lowered by 11 mm compared to that of other versions and integrated by 17 “wheels. Together with the specific calibration of the power steering, which in turn also offers good feedback, the kit gives way to have fun among the curves, because it allows this Micra to deal with them accurately and to cover them without smudging.
Even the less powerful of the two 2020 Nissan Micra does not lend itself to behavioral criticism. Despite having a structureless rigid than the other, in fact, it is well planted on the ground and is agile. Also thanks to the electronics, because the IG-T 100 takes advantage of the work of the Trace Control, which limiting understeer to the minimum, gives a nice contribution to the directionality also in the succession of closed curves.
Compared to the N-Sport, however, it is a bit ‘less comfortable, not so much because the trim filters little roughness, but because its three cylinders is always a little’ noisier. Despite the largest cubic volume and 10 horsepower more than 900 cm 3which replaces, with a torque that rises from 140 to 160 Nm but at a higher speed, this engine has a not very different character. In short, it offers discrete cues and, when it has to start again from low speeds, it is necessary to come to terms with the slightly long spacing of the five-speed gearbox to which, consequently, one must resort to obtaining the brio. A pledge imposed by the fact that this unit aims, according to the House, to offer lower consumption and emissions than those of its predecessor.
